I finally had to give in and write about this new eReader controversy. The consensus is totally split half saying they love the eReaders and half saying they prefer real books. I have used both in the past and i think that real books win hands down.
There is nothing else in the world than reading a good book, and i think that the fact that i cant physically turn the pages on my own takes away some of the appeal of the eReader. I don't like the fact that they are trying to make everything electronic. It is fun to play on your phone when there is nothing else to do but if we are constantly making everything electronic then we will lose people skills and will become too dependent. But that is not the point of this blog. The point is that i prefer the feel of a real book compared to the cold stiffness of a nook.
There are many upsides to choosing and eReader over a paperback though. For example if you are working on a essay and you cant find that certain quote you been looking for, you can easily type in a couple of key words of the quote into your nook and there is a good chance that what you are looking for will be found. This gets rid of that headache that we get when we cant find the perfect quote. Also you can easily highlight and annotate the book without having to permanently ruining your book. I like the ease and size of the eReader, but prefer the beauty and feel on classic books.

DAN BROWN
I am so thankful that i took this class this year, because it introduced me to the god who is Dan Brown. Oh my, his novels are thrilling, suspenseful and you actually learn by reading them. When i read DaVinci Code, that was the only thing that i did for a week, my whole life was so absorbed by this novel. I would literally start reading at 3 o'clock when i got home from school and read for a good 4 hours every day. The novel was about 464 pages and 130 chapters, but the chapters were like 3 - 5 pages (10 at the most) and each chapter ended in a cliffhanger so i just had to keep reading. there was nothing that i disliked about his writing style either because he had sneaky way of teaching me all about ancient history with out me even noticing!
Dan Brown must have donemonths years of research to be able to flawlessly write a believable story about the discovery of the Holy Grail, i am still not sure if what he wrote about is completely true, but i shall do some research and find out.... http://catholiceducation.org/articles/facts/fm0035.html....Well that was disappointing So basically everything in the novel is proven to be false. But isn't that the fun part about conspiracy theories, the possibility that the conspiracies are correct and "the truth" has tricked so many over the years.
Luckily for me i got to read not only one but two Dan Brown books this year. DaVinci Code and Deception Point. Deception Point was just as good as the first. Dan always makes such interesting characters, he makes you wish that you were as smart as them. His characters are always so much smarter than me and figure things out so effortlessly and it makes me jealous. Dan Brown is an amazing author and i will deffinately read more from him in the future.

FREEDOM TO READ WHAT YOU WANT
Ever since we entered middle school we have been told what to read. There have been some good book titles and some questionable ones *cough* the giver *cough*. Since so many of these books have been so dull many student think that reading is a chore and a bore. But we are trying to reteach students into thinking that reading can be entering and is so much better than just sitting and watching TV with our brains half turned off. Rather we can expand our vocab, ideals and creativity instead of sleeping with our eyes open.
This class has made it possible for students to make their own book choices, maybe even learning to enjoy what they are reading. Because if students can choose their own books there is a better chance that they will actually read the book. I know that i have heard dozens of times how one of my peers didn't even read the book that we are about to take a test on. Therefore they fail the test and maybe even fail the class. If the students are given the choice of a book that they want to read than it can only help them in the future and in their classes. There is always a possibility that even with the option of choosing your own book students will still not care or try but they might change for the better.
With this new class i personally have felt like i have more freedom at school. I don't have to wait until summer to read the books that i want to. Since I can read what I want i feel like reading for this class is not at all a chore. I know that i am not the only one(shocking i know) and will be more beneficial to the students grades. Who feels this way either. my whole class seems to enjoy the class as well. So students should always be able to choose their books for school because they will actually enjoy it
